How Power Smoothie Makes Me Enjoy My Morning More (Hint: NOT Because of the Taste)

As I said in my previous post, I have always been a night person. As in, I have always been more active and focused at night.

Ever since 2013, when I start working for my family business, I have consistently wake up at 6 am or earlier and I absolutely hate the process of waking up.

It’s not that I am not a morning person or hate mornings; I like being awake in the morning when everything is still quiet and slow, but I simply hate the process of waking up to being awake: getting out of my warm bed and eating my breakfast (it’s like my jaws refuse to wake up).

For the past year, my morning routine looks like this

My Old Routine

  1. Gets up by 6 am and take my dog out for a walk [20 mins]
  2. Prepare my bowl of 3 pieces of Weet-Bix (usually with milk and honey) and my black coffee [10 mins]
  3. Enjoy my black coffee while reading online (news, articles or blogs) until 7:15
  4. Get ready for work and leave house by 7:45
I have eaten it for so long, I can’t describe what it tastes like. It’s like my tongue tunes out the taste.

Sipping my hot black coffee while reading is the only part I really enjoyed in the morning because I get to learn and catch up on the current events with nobody bothering me. However, I noticed that I don’t have as much energy as I used to since I start having this breakfast and I may have lack nutrition to get me through the day (breakfast is the most important meal of the day and all that good stuff).

I decided that a change to my breakfast is in order, but there is a problem: I am so lazy to prepare 3 pieces of Weet-Bix + Milk, how am I going to prepare a complete nutritious breakfast and eat it (remember the sleeping jaw)?

So on Tuesday, September 11, 2019, bright sunny afternoon, I had a brilliant-blinding-light idea. Why not just blend everything and drink it.

I have heard of power smoothie before but it wasn’t until I researched online that I found out people actually blend everything in, (boiled eggs, nuts and tofu or pretty much anything that I associate with food) which leads to…

My Brand New Shiny Routine

I. Gets up and take my dog out for a walk [20 mins]

II. POWER SMOOTHIE EVERYTHING! (Which I prepared the night before for a week supply)

  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Kiwifruits
  • Banana
  • Weet-Bix
  • Boiled Egg
  • Cinnamon
  • Dragonfruits
  • Peanut Butter
  • Hemp Heart
  • Spinach

III. Enjoy my black coffee while reading online whether it’s news, articles, blogs until 7:15 like a boss

The whole prep is 10 minutes including washing the dishes and blender and 3 – 5 minutes to drink it.

I still use the same amount of time in the morning, but now I got a healthy breakfast and I can get back to enjoying my black coffee and reading.

So What Do I think?

It’s definitely not perfect yet, I have to tweak my recipe for a bit since I want this to be a sustainable habit. It doesn’t taste bad but it doesn’t taste good either. I may have put too much Weet-Bix since it feels like I’m drinking porridge. But the goal was to have a nutritious and quick breakfast so that I can get back to enjoying more of what I like.
