Lazy Chewer Power Smoothie Recipe

For the past week, I have been getting into the habit of drinking power smoothie for breakfast because I am too lazy to eat my breakfast.

I know you are busy too so I will start off this post with the recipes off the bat and I will explain my logic of the ingredients following.

Mad Hat Lazy Chewer Power Smoothie

  • 1/4 dragonfruit
  • 1/2 Kiwi
  • 1/2 Banana
  • 20 Blueberries
  • 4 Strawberries
  • 1 Boiled Egg
  • 1 Handful of Spinach/ Bokchoy
  • 1 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 1/2 Weet-Bix or Granola
  • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1 Tbsp Greek Yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp Hemp Hearts
  • Coconut Juice/ Milk to play around with the thickness

Lazy Mad Hat Lazy Chewer Power Smoothie

  • 1 Scoop of Whey Protein Powder (replaceable with other protein sources)
  • 1 Handful of frozen spinach (or any leafy salad veggies)
  • 1 Cup Fruit of your choosing (e.g. 4 Large Strawberries/ 30 Blueberries/ 1 Kiwi/ 1 Dragonfuit)
  • 1 Tbsp Peanut Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Hemp Hearts (replaceable with more Peanut Butter)
  • Coconut Juice/ Milk to play around with the thickness

Preparation

The only thing that always turns me off from drinking power smoothie for breakfast was the thought of preparing the ingredients in advance. However, the first time I prepared everything, it was in batch of 5 days supplies and it was not as bad as I thought (So far, I am sticking to the Lazy Chewer recipe).

Every time I shop for ingredients, it takes me roughly 15 – 30 minutes of preparation (washing, cutting, storing the fruits and boiling eggs) for 5 days supplies of ingredients.

I prepared up to 5 days of fruits because I don’t feel too comfortable leaving peeled fruits uneaten or blended too long.

Few Hacks on Ingredient Preparation

Use plastic takeaway containers or Tupperware for fruits. That way, in the morning, all you have to do is grab a container and dump everything into the blender. It’s also easier to clean

Keep ingredients close by each other. I keep my Greek yogurt, milk, hemp hearts next to each other in the fridge. I also put my cinnamon, peanut butter, boiled egg and Weet-Bix next to each other on the kitchen counter.

Every morning, when I am preparing my power smoothie, I don’t have to remember all of the ingredients but simply the location where the ingredients are. (Freezer = fruits; fridge = protein; counter = additional toppings)

Don’t worry about making the ingredients look good. When I prepare my ingredients I just mix everything into the container even if I squash some of my blueberries. When I dump everything into the blender, I pour in the squashed juice anyway.

The Logic Behind the Ingredients

This is definitely not perfect yet depending on who you ask (a college student or a professional nutritionist). For the ingredients, I just want to make sure I hit

  • 1.5 Cups of Fruit
  • 1 Cup of Veggies
  • Protein (in gram) equal to my body weight (in kg)
  • Enough carbs to get me to lunch

For the Lazy Chewer recipe, it may seems like I put in a lot of mixed ingredients, simply because I know our body is not as simple as my equation above and there will be other nutrients that I can benefit from by mixing as much variety as possible into the smoothie.

If you are also lazy in preparing the ingredients, the Lazy Lazy Chewer recipe should still hit the daily serving of fruits, veggies and protein of the equation above.

People tell me that I have to be careful of my sugar intake because I mix as much fruit as possible into the smoothie. Honestly, I am not too worried because the more variety of fruits I put into the smoothie, the smaller the serving size of each fruits that I put in.

Also, since a few years ago, I do not consume a lot of sugar anymore.

  • I drink my coffee black
  • I don’t eat a lot of rice (at most the serving size the palm of my hand for lunch or dinner)
  • I eat a small size dinner (usually chicken soup with drumsticks and no salt)
  • I don’t drink sodas or eat salty and/ or sweet snacks

I am still tweaking my recipe for easier preparation but so far if I take the time to prepare my ingredients, I definitely prefer drinking power smoothie in the morning and I can see myself sustaining this habit.
